THE ABOVE EMAIL WHICH I HAVE JUST RECEIVED IS BIG NEWS FOR ME!
June 13th 2022
I have applied to join the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers seven times before . It is a capricious process and involves me in a lot of work and some expense. It is always hard to live with rejection and I have always tried to put in my best work. Anyway, I wanted this professional recognition for reasons I’ve quite forgotten and as I plonk ARE after my name on my letterhead, I can puff myself up a little bit, for services rendered to persistence.
PRESSING MATTERS
The January 2021 issue of Pressing Matters, a stylish and beautifully produced quarterly UK publication for artist-printmakers carries a very complimentary eight-page feature about me and my printmaking. Of course it is really lovely to get this kind of recognition, but above all, it was a huge pleasure to have a morning with John Coe, the editor, and his lovely photographer Jo Housden. I was put instantly at ease with their warmth and friendliness. The conversation flowed and it was a delightful interlude in these Covid-restricted times.
You can read the article by downloading the .pdf from the Pressing Matters website.

John told me that he started the journal because he wanted to make linocut prints and thought it would be good to meet other printmakers. He decided that to make a publication about printmakers would be a good way to facilitate these ambitions! (Wow, what enterprise think I!) The journal took off, but leaves that other part of his ambition somewhat under-fulfilled.
INSTALLATION FOR WOOLWICH CONTEMPORARY PRINT FAIR
Last October, I was successful in winning the competition to build a large kinetic piece, 7 metres long (22 feet) and almost 4 metres high (12 feet), an endless moving display of colourful moiré patterns as a moving band of paper passes over 15 rollers powered by a small electric motor. Sadly, due to Covid restrictions, the installation has not yet been fully built, but it is ‘on hold’ for construction, circumstances allowing, during 2021. I have been able to begin work on some of the details, but the main framework will now not be constructed before October 2021
INTERNATIONAL PRINT CENTRE OF NEW YORK
December 10th 2020 - my triptych print, Irascible Sea - after Kunisada (shown on the ‘Recent Prints’ page) which has only recently been printed, has been selected for the 2021 winter exhibition of the International Print Centre of New York. It is really encouraging to have work chosen for such a prestigious venue in central Manhattan.
2020
ROYAL WEST OF ENGLAND ACADEMY OPEN EXHIBITION
I am delighted that two of my prints - Horseshoe Falls 2 and Shadow Falls 2 - have been accepted for the excellent and always interesting large open exhibition at the RWA in Bristol, exhibition which opens on the 21st November 2020 and continues through into 2021.
WOOLWICH CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR
Two of my prints - Ribbon Falls and Water over Rock - have been selected for the Woolwich Contemporary Art Fair, due to be held in mid-November at Woolwich Arsenal. In addition, I discover that my submission for a large installation that forms a centrepiece of the exhibition has been accepted in open competition. I will post information about this on my blog. Unfortunately, this fantastic event has been postponed until next year.
I am making some prints available on the Instagram page @artistsupportpledge at very reduced rate. If you are interested in any prints shown on this website, let me know and I will negotiate price favourably for customer, due to circumstance.
Some of my prints can be seen at Paragon Gallery, Cheltenham. I am having an informal exhibition of my work at the Nailsworth Natural Health Centre, Gloucestershire, from January 26th for a month.
Visitors are always welcome at my studio, address on the contact page. I suggest that you call or email me before to make sure I am around.
